What is a Birth Doula?
A Birth Doula is a trained non-medical companion and professional who supports a Mother throughout pregnancy, labor, and delivery. A partner who works alongside a birthing person to provide physical, informational and emotional support throughout childbirth. A resource to help guide you and refer to as you navigate your pregnancy and laboring journey. Providing unwavering support to ensure you feel confident, safe and informed so that you may reflect on your birth as a positively memorable experience.
What to expect?
Support, and the unexpected. Childbirth is as unpredictable as your due date, but the more informed you are about your body, your baby and your choices, the more prepared and confident you will feel throughout your pregnancy and labor. As your Birth Doula I will provide a minimum of 1-2 prenatal and 1-2 postpartum visits to discuss your birth plan, and check in after delivery. I will be a support system to help guide you in any decisions and questions you have along the way. I’m here to provide unbiased information and emotional support.
Why hire a Birth Doula?
A Doula's sole purpose is to provide one on one, emotional, informational and physical support while ensuring advocacy for your instilled birth plan. "Advocacy is defined as supporting the birthing person in their right to make decisions about their body, and their baby." A Doula is to ensure your desires and wishes are met by creating a clear birth plan prior to your due date, and helping you share it with your birth partners and care providers.
A Doula will help create a soothing environment, while providing evidence based information, and explaining any medical procedures before they occur. Providing massage, assistance in water therapy, movement, music, aromatherapy and breathing techniques are all examples of how a Doula can support you in labor. Childbirth is a very intimate and vulnerable space, a place where every birthing person should be held at a high honor, and extend to those they wish to stand beside them.
